When Ethics Are Compromised For Politics- St Lucia-Star-July 31, 2002
"Good governance requires the enforcement of good ethical standards. Therefore, those who attempt to misrepresent their academic achievements are no different from a minister of government who accepts kickbacks from an on-going government project. Our rules on what is, or is not ethically correct, must be consistent. And these consequences must not be left to the sole discretion of the political process. Our government should also be strong enough to pass legislation to criminalize the misrepresentation of academic achievements, among other things."
Commenting on great leaders of the world –March 06th, 2002
"On my own personal list of inspiring men and women who have change the course of history, there are few who stand taller than the rest. They included Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, who through the darkest days of the Civil Rights Movement was able to inspire an entire generation of black Americans to reject America’s system of apartheid. He also demanded that white America acknowledge its transgressions by guaranteeing equal rights to its citizens of color. … John F. Kennedy was also an inspiring leader in his own right. Although the depth of his greatness may never be known, JFK left an indelible mark on the body politic of his nation by challenging an entire generation of young Americans to “ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. … In John Compton, St Lucians clearly had a leader who stood for something, and who was bold enough and had the vision to concentrate on nation building. His abrasive personality, and infectious influence on the farmers of his day, transformed St. Lucia’s sugar-cane plantations into a thriving banana industry."
On St. Lucia’s Educational System – Star- April 13, 2002
"Beginning today, our educational system should place stronger emphasis on nurturing and teaching students from an early age the virtues of being good citizens. Part of the goal of education in our country, should be to define what it means to be a St. Lucian, including helping students to understand their responsibilities to the community, the nation, and the world. To accomplish that goal, we need to elevate or revamp the way that social studies is presently being taught, so that civic responsibility becomes the corner stone or hallmark of a St. Lucian Education.
Seeking to advice the government of St. Lucia on how an Economic Council should be structured – Star- July 2001
"In defining my own proposal for an Economic Council, I had envisioned a body that would be free from the constraints of political patronage. One that would be able to work with the government of St. Lucia within the framework of mutual respect, making recommendations based on sound marketing and economic principles. Also, the duties and responsibilities of the Economic Council would have to be well drawn out, creating a meticulous code of conduct, designed to put country before self."
"Under my plan, the National Interest would always take precedent over individual interest. Therefore, the focus and composition of the Economic Council would have to be of a bi-partisan nature, and reflective of the morals and aspirations of the St. Lucian people to rid themselves of a life of poverty."
